Vegan chicken to outsell meat at UK Mexican restaurant chain

Mexican restaurant chain Barburrito is serving up vegan chicken like there’s no tomorrow.

In fact, the vegan chicken option using THIS Isn’t Chicken is set to outsell the chain’s most popular meat option this month, making it the bestseller.

After launching on the menu six months ago, the plant-based option quickly overtook the other meaty fillings including spicy shredded beef and pulled pork.

And now, it’s set to take the top spot! If this isn’t the start of the vegan revolution, we don’t know what is!

With a record-breaking 582,000 global Veganuary participants this year, and an estimated 1.5 million vegans in the UK, this news reflects the shifting eating habits towards more plant-focused diets.

Barburrito also offers a Fajita Veg and Guac filling if you’re not keen on meat alternatives, and if you fancy something sweet the Churros are safe for vegans.

‘Meat-lovers have started giving plant-based a go’

Speaking in a statement sent to Vegan Food and Living, Lynsey Hutchinson, Marketing Manager at Barburrito explained:

“We want to give our customers as many menu choices as possible and it’s been fantastic to see THIS Isn’t Chicken become so popular.

“Whilst we know the plant-based filling has helped draw in a vegan fanbase, we’ve been surprised by how many meat-lovers have started mixing it up and giving plant-based a go.”
