Is Skin Inc Cruelty-Free?

Skin Inc. Supplement Bar offers personalized mix and match serums, masks and peels customized to your skin type but is Skin Inc cruelty-free & vegan in 2020? We’ve got the answers here!

Is Skin Inc Cruelty-Free?

Skin Inc is NOT Cruelty-free. Skin Inc. sells its products in stores in mainland China where animal testing is mandatory for all imported cosmetics. As a result, Skin Inc. pays and allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law.

Skin Inc. Animal Testing Policy

Below is a screenshot of what’s currently stated on Skin Inc’s official website:

Skin Inc Cruelty-Free Claims

On Skin Inc’s website, they claim they do not conduct any animal testing.

However, this is not enough information for us to classify any brand as being cruelty-free to our standards.

So I emailed the brand asking if any of its products or ingredients are tested on animals. Either by the company itself, commissioned to a third party to test on its behalf, or by any of its suppliers. They responded saying,

Thank you for your interest!

Kindly be advised that we do not conduct any testings on animals.“

Again, this was not enough information for us to consider the brand as being cruelty-free. Notice how they keep saying “we” do not conduct any testing on animals. So, I responded back asking if they ask or allow others to test their products or ingredients on animals for them. Skin Inc responded,

“Skin Inc does not conduct any testing on animals during product development. Some of the local Regulatory authorities may conduct the testing themselves.”

Policies stating, “some local regulatory authorities may conduct the testing themselves”, usually implies the company is selling its products in mainland China. Because all imported cosmetics sold in stores in mainland China are required by law to be tested on animals.

Is Skin Inc Sold in China?

Unfortunately, I have confirmed that Skin Inc is indeed selling its products in stores in mainland China where animal testing is required. Below are a couple of screenshots I took clearly showing several retailers in mainland China selling Skin Inc products.

Skin Inc Supplement Bar Sold in China. Cannot Be Cruelty-Free!

Skin Inc Sold at China Sephora, therefore required to test on animals and NOT cruelty-free!

Because of Skin Inc’s decision to sell in mainland China stores, they must consent and pay to have their products tested on animals. That’s why all cosmetic brands selling in mainland China cannot be considered cruelty-free in 2020.

Although Skin Inc. may not be conducting these animal tests themselves, they are knowingly allowing Chinese authorities to test their products on animals in order to sell in China.

Many truly cruelty-free brands have chosen not to sell their products in China because of the country’s animal testing laws. Unfortunately, Skin Inc. refuses to do the same and has decided to put profits before the welfare of animals.

Summary: Skin Inc. is NOT Cruelty-Free!

To sum up, by choosing to sell in mainland China, Skin Inc. must have their products tested on animals. Therefore I would not consider Skin Inc. to be a cruelty-free brand.

Currently, Skin Inc. is on our List of Brands to Avoid – Animal Tested.

Is Skin Inc. Vegan?

Since we would not consider Skin Inc. to be cruelty-free as their products are tested on animals when required by law, we also wouldn’t consider anything sold or manufactured by Skin Inc. to be vegan.

Skin Inc claims almost all of its products are vegan and don’t contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products, however, Skin Inc. is not a cruelty-free brand.

Below is a screenshot of what’s currently stated on Skin Inc’s website:

Skin Inc Vegan Claims But They're NOT Cruelty-Free!

Skin Inc claims to be vegan but they’re not even cruelty-free!

In order for products to be considered vegan by ethical elephant’s standards, the products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals, anywhere in the world, and also must not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.
