Brian May has launched a perfume to help save wildlife

Brian May has teamed up with perfume company Xerjoff to develop his own perfume which will raise funds to help save European wildlife under threat.

His new ‘Spray to Help’ fragrance will be encased in a blood-red bottle, and feature pink pepper, jasmine, ylang-ylang and musk.

In particular, May has chosen to dedicate his perfume to the Eurasian badger which has seen unrelenting persecution in England. According to the Badger Trust, in 2020 alone 62,000 of the beloved animals were culled by the British government.

An insider said his perfume “has deliberately earthy overtones — with a hint of clean badger fur.” Now that’s a surprising scent for a perfume!

The Save Me Trust and animal activism

May’s Save Me Trust works to protect the welfare of European wildlife by focusing on the issues affecting them such as increasing human population, the destruction of habitats, and pollution. Back in 2016, the Save Me Trust protested the ongoing badger cull in addition to illegal fox hunting in collaboration with the RSPCA.

The trust claims that “by working together and changing our behaviours, we can achieve sustainable change that supports wildlife, business and the environment, and offers every inhabitant of Planet Earth a better future.”

This is not the only animal activism that May partakes in. The Queen guitarist has spoken out about the connection between eating animals and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to NME May said: “To go vegan was just a decision, and I haven’t been preachy about it. But now, we’ve seen more of the effects of how eating animals has brought us to our knees as a species. I think it’s time to re-examine our world in a way that doesn’t abuse other species.

“Whether we will see that happen, I don’t know. But I think I will start to be a bit more preachy about veganism because to me it is the way forward, in so many ways.”

Brian May’s new limited-edition Xerjoff perfume is available now, priced at €235 for a 50ml bottle.
